Religions: Msia timebomb

Malaysia is a bottle of rice wine made to perfection, so we thought. 48 years in the wine cellars, by now the concentration in the bottle -- muslim substance 60% reacting to non-muslim substance 30%; catalyst agent BN 10% -- would have nearing mature age. To speed up the process, the minder -- parliamentarians and politicians -- shakes the bottle every five years.

RELIGIONS: MALAYSIA TIMEBOMB
http://knightadventure.blogspot.com/2011/10/religions-msia-timebomb.html
By Devil's Advocate

The last thing anyone would want to hear in Malaysia is discussion about religions, particularly Islam and Christianity, because regardless how well was the intention of the first speaker when he brought up the subject of discussion highly likely, more often than not, the affair would turn into an ugly debate between the Christians and the Muslims. The heated argument would eventually turn into mud-slinging, name calling, or plain childish my-dad-is-better-than-your-dad thingy.

No thanks to Internet and YouTube -- Christians and Muslims nowadays can shout, virtually, at one another, and get away with it each time. Similar confrontations are also taking place in a number of Facebook pages. Malaysians these days are feeling the brunt of Facebook-version of holy war. People love to pick on others from the opposite faith, don't they? Either to invite genuine intellectual exchanges about differences in religions or simply to spite, for the satisfaction of saying it out loud finally.

Someone has to break up the quarrel. In any case, the Christians or the Muslims would insist on having the last say before going off. That last say usually says the darndest thing. Tolerance is ignored, no compromise, no handshake, nothing diplomatic achieved, they can only agree to disagree, for eternity if need be or until-next-time-I-see-you-in-person; old wounds refreshed. Heaven weeps.

Differences between religions, especially obvious in Islam and Christianity, can be and proven to be main factor in many break-ups in just about any society or country; or even a close-knit Melanau family. Countries go to war over religion, man kills man over something as unneccesary as my-prophet-is-better-than-your-prophet. In Malaysia, however, the conflicts, for some uncanny reasons, have always got to do with pigs.

Don't say bad things about pigs if you don't want to insult the Ibans. Also, don't say nice things about pigs if you don't want to insult the Malays. Solution: we shouldn't say anything about pigs. But in Malaysia -- my gawd! --, pigs have loud say in nearly everything the Malaysians do.

Lest we forget, country Malaysia was formed in 1963 to give life to democracy in an independence nation. Fast forward 48 years later, the second generation of independent Malaysia has turned the country into the like of a jerusalem; a battlefield waiting to unleash. All it takes to start the insanity is one fool showing middle finger at another fool's religion. But so far nobody wants to be the first fool.

But it's only a matter of time before it finally happens, don't you think?

So, Malaysia's greatest nightmare is already beginning to take shape, slowly but confidentally, particularly alarming now that we're heading in that direction especially when some quarters in Malaysia have the habit of exploiting religions to advance their political career. And, so are their millions of grassroot supports marching to the same tune. Gawd have mercy our Armageddon is beckoning.

But the Malaysia formula failed. One reason because the minder, in particular Ibrahim Ali, shook the bottle too often, or probably had instead stirred the bottle.

Other reason because it's only natural Muslims and Christians cannot have chemistry with each other -- they can have sex but they cannot agree on intermarriage. Their mixture, forced by the catalyst agent, had only created residue -- poisonous waste --, a layer that floats as division between the two stubborn substances. While the two would not blend the residue grows thicker.

By now it's nearly all residue in the Malaysia bottle, rebranded OneMalaysia and ready for export to Sabah and Sarawak.

Hell no, keep your filths in Malaya!

Muslim Extremists in India Attack, Threaten Christian Women Convert from Islam, others threatened with burning.

NEW DELHI – Four months after a recent convert to Christianity from Islam in eastern India’s West Bengal state was stripped and beaten, about 50 Muslim extremists yesterday disrupted a prayer meeting held in her home, threatening to burn it down if she did not return to Islam, area Christians said.

The extremists warned Selina Bibi of Motijil village in Murshidabad district that if she did not return to Islam, then she must either leave the area or see her house burned down. At her baptism at Believers Church four kilometers from her home on March 29, a large crowd of Muslim extremists disrupted the service, said a pastor identified only as Bashir...

In Natungram, Murshidabad district, Muslim extremists held three Christian women for an hour on July 21, threatening to beat and burn them alive if they continued worshipping Christ, area Christians said. Moyazan Bibi and Aimazan Bibi of Believers Church told Compass that at 5:30 p.m. they had set out to visit a widow, Suryja Bibi, to share the message of Christ at her invitation.

Meanwhile in Facebook page 'Sabah dan Sarawak Keluar Malaysia' (SSKM) about a few days ago, tension erupted when someone from among the 4,900 members posted a YouTube video with a title: "Perkasa: Christian teachers must be monitored". http://youtu.be/3G0A2MgTyvU

It is one of important rules in SSKM that no one should post articles related with sensitive matters namely race and religion. However, some posts could always made it to the wall while the Admins were not looking. This post together with subsequent comments had been deleted sometime later. We republished a copy of it here because we want to show how people in this country usually react towards such issues. Yes, they're Malaysians who put their best to contain religious issues from going out of the way; No, not everyone wanted to put out the flame.

LOGAN: PERKASA nak haramkan 'guru beragama Kristian di Sekolah Kebangsaan???

SIMON: talking about tolerance...

STEWARD: Extremist who used their dick to think not their brain, feel sorry for them, may Allah forgive all of this jokers.

(ADMIN) MIKAIL: Even Tommy Highfliers can see it clearly from another perspective. By right, this post shouldn't be in the first place. You've (Logan) offended SSKM brothers and sisters here from many walks of life. Our objective here is to give constructive ideas and opinions on how we get the ball rolling, not jeopardize it.

HATI: I agree to certain extend that religion should be minimal in our discussion here in sskm. Don't be carried away by our emotion less we will be like those people in the video. We must demonstrate our highest moral etic. I've posted a link on religious forum previously so do visit it to learn more about other religion.

LOGAN: Isn't freedom of religion a priority in matters concerning the livelihood of people in Sabah & Sarawak? Is it not that freedom of religion is mentioned in the 20 point Cobbold agreement that binds the formation of Sabah & Sarawak to form Ma...

EMVAS: Perkasa nang rasist...pertubuhan rasist..

(ADMIN) MIKAIL: ‎El Logantwo, does it have to be us equally emotional and too easily get provoked by this? Does this video helping to our cause in SSKM?

LOGAN: Mikail - You don't have to look at it emotionally.

JULAIHI: Biar pakcik tambah segenggam dua bara.

JOJIE: Terbaik Haji :)

SIMON: I strongly suggest admin censor posts that are beyond our worldly intelligence to comprehend...in the end, it is between us and our God...only after we have left this world, will we find out if we are right or wrong, good or bad, in the eyes of our Creator...I rest my case..

Isu agama kalau diperdebatkan sehingga bila pun tak kan habis.

JOJIE: Betul tu Sarawak Merdeka

JULAIHI: Kalau ini matlamat SSKM, untuk berdebat siang malam tentang agama aku betul agama engko salah, pakcik boleh berdebat siang malam. Tapi engkorang tahan ker?

JOJIE: Salute you Haji Julaihi Haji Suut!

SIMON: Let's talk of Love, not Hate....make friends, not enemies...

JOJIE: I also prefer that simon sandi :)

LOGAN: Mana boleh tak cakap tentang agama? Semua orang mempunyai hak pandangannya.

SIMON: It is a lot easier to do bad than good, to condemn than praise....because we are human... Law of Men versus Law of God...which one is mighty?

LOGAN: Yes it's a lot easier to bad than good. So please tell it to PERKASA and Barisan Nasional in the next GE

(ADMIN) NILSON: ‎El Logantwo... is it a lot easier to be bad than good? I don't agree with you, wahai saudara/i El Logantwo... why i don't agree? Simple... because i had found that it is MUCH MUCH LOT MORE EASIER TO BE GOOD....

(ADMIN) MIKAIL: ‎El Logantwo and Cosmas Justine, you've been warned by brothers here not to create religion tensions here.

(ADMIN) SARAWAK-M: Ingat. Banyak lg tempat anda utk berbincang mengenai isu agama. Terima kasih.

(Back in Dewan Selamba)

The Four Horsemen of the Borneo Four, too, are no saints. They, too, can engage one another for religion's sake. Because, while their leader, Haji Julaihi Haji Suut, is a Muslim Sarah J. Brooke is a Christian, James anak Bond is uncommitted; Devil's Advocate, as the name boasted, is adversary to all great religions in the world. You probably want to imagine the quadraplet as gang of a saladin, a singer, a democrat, and a pirate.

The only reason why this gang remain intact thus far is probably because they restrained themselves from discussing religious issues in Dewan Selamba -- the writers have their own columns each where he or she can publish articles by his or her designated theme, without intervention from the others; the Dewan Selamba is where everything goes.

DEVIL: Is that true, pakcik? About the pre-school, the muslim pupils were asked  to recite Christians prayer or hymn or Christian-whatever...

JULAIHI: Pakcik berani bersumpah laknat sekalipun ianya benar-benar terjadi di Sibu. Bulan 8 tahun ini.

SARA: And, Sibu town as we already know is a town densely populated with Chinese.

BOND: These are not ordinary Chinese, mind you, they're Foochow Chinese. And, this is not ordinary Christian denomination, mind you -- Methodist! If you'd remember the incident in Damansara Utama.

DEVIL: Yea, even the Melanaus the Taib Mahmud's people, the Malays the Malaysia majority race, the Ibans the Sarawak majority race the ferocious ones the agi idup agi ngelaban ones, who happen to live in Sibu Town with the Foochows had to follow the way of the Chinatown ya?

But are you sure that was a Methodist school, pakcik? Because Methodism is a sect of Protestantism, founded by John Wesley in the 1720's. It was a split-off from the Church of England. Church of England was a split-off from the Catholic Church in Europe about 175 years before. Catholic Church hails Virgin Mary in prayers alright but the Methodists are not Catholics.

BOND: Pakcik was very furious at that time he probably saw a Mary in everything Christian. (Chuckles)

DEVIL: Right! As if you know better, James anak Bond. Here, let me educate you atheists. Christians are divided into two large groups: Catholic and Protestant -- quite like how Islam is divided into Syiah and Sunni. Yes, the Catholics and the Protestants, too, had conflicts between each other.

Any Christian denomination outside of Catholicism is Protestant. So Methodists are Protestant. As for how they differ from other denominations of Protestantism, it's fairly subtle. They're similar to Episcopal, which some say is very similar to Catholic. Generally in the Methodist church, you're baptised as a baby, sometimes called a Christening, take Holy Communion for the first time as a young child, and are later confirmed in the early teen years. Similar to Catholicism, but not exactly. What makes Methodist different from, say Lutherens? Well, the methodists sing alot!

(Laughter)

BOND: I may be one who believes in guns and girls, but at the very least I know Methodism was a strongly evangelical movement -- they stressed on conversionism. With DUMC come into mind now, does that also include converting the Muslims?

DEVIL: In Malaysia, the Methodist Church is often associated with the Chinese because the Chinese seemed to have this fetish for Methodism (sniggers). The conversionism you talked about actually refer to their believe that EVERYONE has to be 'born again'. From England, Methodism was exported to the United States where it widespread like an endemic, thanks to Thomas Coke and Francis Asbury.

Today Methodism is quite diverse, with some Methodists practicing a conservative form of evangelicalism, and other Methodists practicing a more liberal form of Protestantism. Methodists have traditionally placed a strong emphasis on issues of social justice. They are generally Arminians. This means that, unlike Calvinists, they believe that human beings have free will, that Christ died for everyone, rather than just the elect. Also, it is possible for someone to fall from grace and lose their salvation -- there are some similarities with Catholicism in this regard.

BOND: Long was your oratory, Devil, very eloquent huh when it comes to religions. Very well, tell me in plain words: Do the Methodists say prayers to Virgin Mary?

DEVIL: I don't know!

(Laughter)

DEVIL: (Blushing) Take it up with the Christians!

SARA: Boys, boys, let's go back to the core of controversies, the pertinent questions. Why has this come up? Was there sufficient proof of this? Did they really force reciting the prayers onto the students regardless of religion?

BOND: Good questions, Sara. Yes, pakcik, I'm afraid I must say your report on that Sibu incident sounded incomplete, too vague to can make a case of complaint even. Did you stop by at the school's administrator's office to find out the rationale behind that...

JULAIHI: Tak penting buat pakcik, Jebon. Kebenaran sudah terpampang di depan mata aper. Apa lagi awak nak?

(Silent)

BOND: You heard the Muslim children reciting the Christian prayer or they merely standing in line without saying anything?

JULAIHI: Budak-budak Islam kutap-katip melafaz doa Kristian.

BOND: Well, pakcik, please suspect one other possibility. I suppose that school did not accept Muslims pupils in the first place yet some Muslim parents begged, literally, for their child's admission into the Christian school. Then the school said the child may enter provided the child must follow the school's traditions, including reciting Christian's prayers, and the parents must not take offend. Now, suppose the parents have agreed to their terms...

JULAIHI: Iya, pakcik faham maksud awak di sana, Jebon! Tapi kan pakcik dah kata apa salahnya sekolah Kristian itu membuat satu pengecualian. Mana-mana budak bukan Kristian tu janganlah dibawa sama dalam acara-acara Kristian. Lain-lain acara persekolahan mereka boleh ikut, tapi bila part-part sembahyang ker, makan babi ker, beli nombor ekor ker, tak payah lah suruh budak-budak Islam tu buat.

SARA: Maybe they're too young to know, or want to know, which is Christian which is Islam. They probably stared at their Christian classmates and figured it's fun to join them. You know, influence from peers.

I know back in the day, St. Columbus Miri, St. Joseph schools in Kuching and Miri, St. Thomas Kuching and St. Mary Kuching do recite Christian prayers during assembly as it is traditionally missionary school. But non-Christian students are excluded from reciting the prayer.

So it is not uncommon for such missionary school in Sarawak, even my Muslim friends from these schools who aren't present during the assembly can remember bits of the prayers as they hear it often in the hallway before entering the assembly hall. So my question is, were the students forced to say the prayers or because they have heard it so many time before, they can remember parts of the prayers and their parents freaked out when they playfully recite it back home?

JULAIHI: Betul tu, Sara! Pakcik jadi bodoh pulak kena otak geliga engkorang ni.

(Laughter)

BOND: The example is a bit extreme, but yeah it makes sense, especially about responsibilities. What about the parents, pakcik, shouldn't they be accountable, too, for sending a Muslim to a Christian school nevertheless regardless the fact they've been made aware of the school's tradition?

Right! 'Pengecualian'.

JULAIHI: Pendidikan tetap pendidikan, Bond, ia tidak memilih. Tetapi agama boleh memilih mana satu penganut dia mana dua tiga bukan penganut dia -- ini sepatutnya jadi commonsense; tak payah buka buku Perlembagaan untuk tahu mana elok mana tak elok.

DEVIL: Eleeh, pakcik, the Muslims also force Islam on non-Muslims what.

JULAIHI: Awak ada bukti? Mana satu sekolah?

DEVIL: Ada, banyak! You're one of the proofs. You were a Pagan until you married a Muslim girl 20 years ago. The conversion cannot be the other way round, can it?

JULAIHI: Silaka ko, toyol!

(Laughter)

JULAIHI: Si-Devil dah mula sabitkan hal-hal pribadi. Pandai engkorang ye.

Kita serupa. Baik macam mana sekalipun Yesus kata engkorang, pakcik akan tetap percaya dia hanyalah seorang nabi. Nabi yang terakhir ialah Nabi Muhammad. Tapi pakcik tak nak bertengkar lagi dah siapa betul siapa salah. Keputusan sesi berdialog kita hari ini, tak aper, pakcik mengaku kalah. Bak kata omputih "I rest my case."

(Laughter)

(Cheering)

(Handshakes)

(Group hugs)
